We prototype new interactive media to support everyday life.

DesignMediaLab is a research group in the Department of Service and Design Engineering at Sungshin Women's University.
We envision a future where people can benefit from emerging technologies in their everyday lives. To make this possible, we design ways for new technologies to meaningfully support people in real-world contexts.

While there are many possible approaches, our research focuses on three key directions:

We are looking for people who like to make things and ask why.

DesignMediaLab recruits undergraduate researchers, M.S. and Ph.D. students every semester. No single background is required — designers, engineers, and people from the humanities and social sciences all fit here. We're looking for someone who loves building their imagination with their own hands.

Potential candidates

DesignMediaLab focuses on research that brings design together with emerging technology. People who love making things with their own hands. People who love to draw. Maybe people who lose themselves in books or films. We believe that the people who make new and interesting things are the ones with a clear sense of what they love. We hope DesignMediaLab can be a playground where you get to build whatever that is.

Whether you apply as an undergraduate researcher or as a graduate student, your major, your grades, and your academic background do not matter at all. What matters is having the kind of taste that lets you lose yourself in the work you love. If you want to design something and build it yourself, please email me.

How to apply

If you join the lab, we provide funding through research assistantships and project support, so that you can focus entirely on design and research.
